80% of the staffs in Tongwei Aquatic Research
Center hold Masters degrees, Bachelor degrees or are technical
school graduates.
The center has the most advanced enclosed workshop with circulating
water for culturing fish in Western China. It has been equipped
with 60 round ponds of fiberglass-reinforced plastics , 4 square
ponds of fiberglass-reinforced plastics of 1 m3 in volume each,
26 plastic ponds for experimentation and 44 hatching and culturing
apparatus. The set of apparatus can reduce other factors that
can adversely influence fish growth, other than the feed applied
in research. It can also culture fish without harm and supply
non-pollutant products. Additionally, the center has 70 high
level open multi-functional ponds used for experimentation.
At present, the center has finished the experiments on aquatic
animals' nutrition and feed, introduction and domestication
of renowned species, fry multiplication, research and development
of breeding edible fish and so on. Recently, the center has
finished a series of experiments and has achieved such results
as the culturing or multiplication on feed formulas of sturgeon
(6 kinds), Leiocassis longirostris, Fugu obocutus Abe, Cyprinus
carpio var jian F6, Large-mouth catfish, Ictaburus Punstatus,
blunt-head bream and other species. Right now, we are undertaking
research on the application of genetic technology in fish multiplication,
research on optimized formulas of compound feed for sturgeon,
research on culturing methods for specific freshwater fish and
marine fish. We will also begin to research the development
of ornamental fish. We have published over 50 research papers
in the past few years. |
